One afternoon he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a couple of more days. However, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
